Exonians bag victory in final outing of season

Topsham RFC ladies team, were 29-22 winners when they took to the pitch to face North Tawton ladies in what was their final outing of the season.
The Exonians had 25 players on duty for the match and the starting 15 made a good start with April Windle crossing the opposition lien in the early exchanges.
Amparo Faus tucked away the conversion and, shortly afterwards, Rebecca Partridge struck with a try, again converted by Faus to give the side a 14-0 lead.
Quick ball through the backs to the wing released Natalie Pellow to score in the corner to increase the lead, this time the try was unconverted.
North Tawton rallied and, aided by a couple of tries from their number eight, went into half-time trailing 19-12.
An early second half penalty was slotted by Corinne Walsh to put Exonians in to a 24-12 lead, but back came the opposition with two further tries to close the game to within two points in the Tops’ favour.
With the clock ticking down Kayleigh Armstrong crossed to complete the scoring to seal a 29-22 success.
The Topsham ladies have gone from strength to strength in the 12 short months that they have been in existence.
Within their first year they have won the won the junior national plate – this combining with Bideford – and also chalked up six independent wins in the eight games played as a Topsham side – and all these since the turn of the year!
