Exmouth Under-13s were ultra-impressive as they overpowered South Molton to the tune of a 55-0 victory.
Such was the performance that it drew high praise from the match official who said at the final whistle: “That’s the finest Under-13 team performance I have seen to date this season!”
The young Cockles, still smarting from their recent cup exit, put together a magnificent demonstration of fast running rugby which left their hosts on the receiving end of a heavy defeat with the man in the middle calling a halt to proceedings five minutes into the second half once the half century of points had been recorded.
Two tries inside the opening five minutes for the Cockles off to the best possible start.
In all they ran in nine tries during the 35-minutes of action with Harry Sprague scoring four of them and Ben Dawson helping himself to a hat-trick.
Zac Tucker and Luke Davis were the other scorers. Not that this was all about the try scorers! Far from it as the performance was one of class all over the pitch.
Both Vinnie and Harry Neath Rogers were relentless in their defensive and attacking work.
The pack worked well in the scrum and the back line found space when it was needed, passed the ball well and closed down every South Molton move quickly and efficiently.
The hosts did not penetrate beyond full back Richard Forrest once, and each time the Cockles secured turnover ball, there was real a threat to the opposition defence.
Both wings were being used to full effect and both Callum Freeman and Zac Tucker made good use of the possession provided to them.
Coach Mike Sprague said: “It was a very special performance from the team.”
