EXMOUTH RFC Quins side travelled to Newton Abbot for a top-of-the-table clash in the league, writes Chris Witkiss.

It was Exmouth that started the game the stronger of the two sides and, for the first 15 minutes, the hosts struggled to get out of their own half,

So it was no surprise when Dave McCarthy opened the scoring with a drop goal.

The hosts quickly equalised and, from the restart, the Quins applied more pressure, but it was not until the 30th minute that Andy Binmore tucked away a corner to give Quins a 6-3 lead.

Things were going well for the young Exmouth side; the forwards were playing well and the three quarters were using the ball intelligently, playing into wind.

Unfortunately, with minutes to go till half-time, the hosts scrum half intercepted a pass from yet another Quins attacking move and went in to score under the posts unopposed. With the kick being converted, it took the home side into the break leading 10-6.

The Quins now threw everything they had at the home side, who stood firm and it was Newton Abbot who put the final score of the game on the board to win 22-6.
