Exmouth return to league rugby action this Saturday (September 1) when they entertain Cleve at the Imperial Ground (2.30pm).
Cockles’ director or rugby Nick Smith says: “With a new coach and several new players it is going to be interesting to see where we are as a team.
“After a competitive pre-season, selection this week will be hotly contested this week at training.”
He continued: “With the 2nd XV also at home to Paignton it looks like being an existing day of rugby.”
The Imperial ground bar will be open from 1pm.
In terms of recent history and how the Cockles have done on the opening day of a new season shows that, over the six season they have won three and lost three of their first day matches.
Last season the first game produced a 39-5 home win over Lydney.
The year before, in what was then a National Two (S) game, the Cockles lost 22-10 at Worthing.
The start of the 2015/16 campaign saw the Cockles beaten 23-20 at Barnstaple and the year before they enjoyed a big opening day success, 56-10 at Weston-super-Mare.
The start of the 2013/14 season saw the Cockles lose 9-3 at home to Chinnor, but they made a winning start to the 2012/13 season with a 39-10 success at Malvern.
