Exmouth colts contribute to their downfall in meeting with Okehampton

Exmouth colts’ planned fixture with Sidmouth was cancelled due to Sidmouth not having a colts team this year, so Okehampton were pleased to visit for a friendly due to their own match also being cancelled, writes Taylor Masters.

At short notice, Okehampton were unable to raise a full side and it was pleasing for Exmouth to have enough players to loan three to their visitors.

Exmouth were being overpowered up front by Okehampton and had difficulty maintaining any sustained periods of play.

However, when they did, the young Cockles looked good and threatening. Particularly pleasing for the Exmouth coaching staff was the performance of new recruit Bertie Hughes at full back.

He did everything that was asked of him in defence and had the pace to mean he was a constant threat whenever he had the opportunity with the ball. This team is still a work in progress and overall improving, but there were too many defensive errors on Saturday to give them any chance of winning.

With a few players absent on Saturday there is a belief that a full-strength team will be capable of much more, as no less than three tries were scored by Exmouth players in an Okehampton shirt!
