EAST DEVON EAGLES 48 PLYMOUTH TITANS 22. EAST Devon Eagles served up a superb performance to defeat Plymouth Titans 48-22.

A powerful start was rewarded with an 8th minute try from James Holman who was was played in by Dave McCarthy and Rich Cadywould converted. Titans were very nearly level almost immediatley and would have been but for a magnificent tgry saving tackle by Olly Turton.

On 15 minutes, Mark Wathes chipped the ball ahead, Titans defence spilled the ball, and Eagles Turton gathered the ball only to fall marginally short of the line. He moved the ball to McCarthy who touched down in the corner and once again the trusty boot of Cadywould saw the additional points added.

On the half hour, after the Titans had got on the score sheet form the first time in the match, Jack Downie drew his man, offloaded to Garry Hooper and he fed the ball inside to Holman to score in the corner, Cadywould converted.

A converted try put Titans back in contention on 37 minutes but just before the break Cadywould broke through the middle to dive over the line under the posts and he kicked the the extra points to see his side in at half time with a 22-12 lead.

Straight from the restart some quick thinking by Hooper saw him gather the ball, sides tep the Titans full back and cross the line by the posts but the Cadywould conversion bouncved back into play off the upright.

Turton was then unlucky not to score when he received a forward pass as he was close to the line but he was to go over on 50 minutes, his industrious work rewarded with a try which was not converted. The Titans replied when Kyle Browne broke through the Eagles line to score an unconverted try in the far corner.

At the start of the 4th quarter, Downie received an awkward inside pass but took the ball on to touchdown near the posts, Cadywould adding the extras and within minutes, Titans Tom West touched down in the corner, Anstis converting. This proved to be the final score of the contest for Titans.

The Eagles however, were not finished with the businees of scoring and went over twice more in the closing stages. Downie was tackled and offloaded to Andy Melbourne who galloped 10 metres to touchdown under the posts and when Marc Briggs played the ball to Sean Lovett, Hooper was on hand to pick up the pass for a fine try under the posts, Cadywould converting both.

When referee Ian Allison blew for time, the Eagles were worthy winners and that brought much joy to a healthy turnout who had braved the wet weather to watch an entertaining game of rugby league.

The Eagles success in this match was very much down to some fine attacking play coupled with good defensive work by player coach Tony Emmins, Mike Wilson and Jonny Boltrukiewicz and Man of Steel Sean Lovett who was a real collosus with his lines of running and try saving tackles.

The Eagles can now look forward with some confidence to the forthcoming Devon Cup Final on Wednesday 9th July when again they meet Plymouth Titans at Exmouth in a repeat of last years final.
