Exmouth Under-10s went down to a 60-10 defeat when they came up against a powerful Exeter Chiefs side.
The Chiefs took charge from the onset and pinned the young Cockles back in their own territory.
Despite strong drives in the ruck from Ben Stuart, Aran Lee and Alec Dunston, Exmouth could not counter the Chief’s wide attacking play and they ran in ten tries and it was not until just before the break that the Cockles finally notched a score when Owen Tidball struck from a trademark run that left the opposition standing.
A half time talk from coaches Mike Sprague and Steve Ford inspired a better second half performance from the Cockles.
Thomas Preece, Harry Sprague and Eddie Ford made some thumping tackles before the unfortunate Ford was taken off with a knee injury. Then a brilliant long range pass from Josh Creswell set Ben Dawson away and he crossed in the corner.
The Chiefs then added two more tries before brothers Vinny and Harry “Tights” Neath-Rogers, in only their second match for the Cockles, went mighty close to getting a third try for their side.
