EXMOUTH under-8s played out a couple of very close encounters with Topsham.

The two games produced no fewer than 39 scores with Topsham edging both games by the narrowest of margins.

The opening game saw the Tops strike first only for Oliver Sturdy’s endeavour setting up a score for Finn Musgrove.

The Tops then scored twice more before Musgrove got his second, this time with help from Callum Wallace.

Three further tries followed from the Tops before Musgrove completed his hat-trick and then William White and Liam Daniels both scored to send the sides into the break at 6-6.

Daniels struck after the re-start but the lead soon changed hands again before a second for White. As the game switched ends once more two Topsham tries were answered by a hat-trick try for Daniels. Two more for White and one from Benji Horn were answered by a couple from the Tops for them to end up 15-13 winners.

In the second game it was just as close with Topsham edging it by the odd score in eleven!

Musgrove, Ieuan Brockway and Ben Lucas together with a brace from Scott Acheson accounted for the Cockles nap hand of scores
