Cooper slots pair of conversiosn as Withycombe Under-11s lose at Cullompton

Withycombe Under-11s battled valiantly in a pair of matches with Cullompton.
Up against sizable and well drilled opposition Withy competed well for periods on a large pitch.
The superior scrummaging and handling skills of the home side saw them ship the ball wide to be three tries up at half-time.
Withy tackling and rucking got them back into the game in the second half to exert periods of sustained pressure.
A Cully break away try against the run of play opened up a 28 point lead. The Withy game continued to improve and there endeavours were rewarded with a brace of late tries and a third in the dying seconds ruled out from an unlucky forward pass.
Cully claimed the game 28-14 with Tom Humphries and Matt Rye the Withy try scorers whilst Will Cooper slotted conversions for both tries.
In a well-contested and enjoyable game of rugby there were positives for Withy to take, most notably the aggressive rucking and counter rucking, improved scrummaging, including against the head and developing passing play.
The Withy Man of the Match award went Owen Devlin for an accomplished first outing at scrum half
A shorter second game was played and it saw Withy concede three tries in the first period. Thereafter they held the line well with what became an encouraging solid performance. The hosts won the second game 21-0.
