EXMOUTH under-8s produced some excellent collective rugby from two meetings with Exeter Chiefs.

The young Cockles made a bright start and were first to score as good work from Benji Horn led to Ben Lucas registering a fine try.

The Chiefs found a swift response and quickly bagged a brace of tries, but back came the Cockles and parity was restored in the contest when excellent progress was made by Oliver Sturdy prior to Liam Daniels crossing.

The sides then swapped further tries. The Chiefs struck first and then Fin Musgrove levelled things up with a flying dive into the corner!

A flurry of scores from the Chiefs put them into a 6-3 lead, but then the young Cockles found a new gear and the lead was short-lived as scores from Callum Wallace, Daniels again, and Ieuan Brockway.

There were no further scores and a compelling encounter ended 6-6.

In the second game the Chiefs were quicker out of the traps and they scored the game’s first try with a good move.

A telling pass from Benji Horn released Will White to level things up and a further try from Scott Acheson put the Cockles in front.

Two further tries from the Chiefs were answered by another Scott try and now the sides were locked at 3-3.

As had been the case in the first game, the Cockles produced a grandstand finish.

Ieaun Brockway and Will White crossed for hat-tricks, both richly deserved as they shone throughout whilst and Ben Lucas helped himself to a pair of tries.

The other score came from Finn Musgrove who notched his second of the game and the young Cockles ran out impressive 12-7 winners.
