Cockles under-12s hit by full force of the Tops

EXMOUTH under-12s ended well beaten when they came up against a powerful Topsham side.
The Cockles possibly entered the game with a little too much confidence, conceding to Topsham inside the first thirty seconds!
Topsham’s forward strength was evident again as they struck for the second time in the 10th minute but, in between the scores, the Cockles gave as good as they got.
There were regular flashes of brilliance from the Cockles, generally involving excellent forward play together with an ever-willing back line but, in general,, that was not enough to repel the Topsham raids.
Alex Taylor did manage to cross the Tops line for his second try in as many games but, at half-time, the Cockles trailed 21-5.
The second half became more of a test for the Cockles with the game played on an increasingly heavy surface. Factor in that the opposition had an entire team waiting to get their chance and the fresh legs certainly made a big impact and Topsham ran out 49-12 winners.
Lee Brockway said: “The team gave their all but it was a tough game for them especially with Topsham changing players with every pause in play. To their credit the team kept going and there were definitely many positives to take from the Cockles performance and attitude.”
