Archant

EXMOUTH became the latest side to feel the full force of the all conquering Hartpury College, on Saturday afternoon.

The Cockles travelled to meet the College side, who have been promoted in every one of the five seasons that they have been in existence, and there’s little doubt that they have a few more rungs yet to climb up the rugby ladder given the obvious strength they have in their ranks!

The college side were contained to just a 17-0 lead at the break as the Cockles displayed a solid defensive system.

Ten more points were posted by the hosts before the first Cockles points went on the board, thanks to a Ross Moorshead try from a line-out move and, with the conversion tucked away by Andy Powell, the score stood at 27-7 to the hosts.

Adam Garner, who had a fine game at scrum-half, then darted through a gap to touch down and close the difference to 15 points at 27-12, but then the College side stepped up the pace and ran in a couple, of tries of their own.

There was still time for Matt Garner to cross the Hartpury lines for the third Cockles try of the game, but that simply drove the hosts to bigger things and they notched a brace of late tries to seal a 53-19 victory.

This Saturday, the Cockles are at home to Newton Abbot.

l The Cockles are relaunching their own club shop this coming Saturday (September 25) prior to the meeting with Newton Abbot.

The shop will stock all the latest lines of club kit, associated playing items from boot bags to headgear for both adults and juniors as well as an exciting new line of replica and leisure wear.
