Archant

Ieaun Brockway struck late in the game to seal a 7-6 win for the Exmouth under-8s in the second of two superb games against Cullompton.

EXMOUTH under-8s finally got in some action after a lengthy lay-off when they entertained Cullompton, writes Peter White.

The first game was a tight affair with Ieuan Brockway charging in to open the scoring for the hosts only for the visitors to quickly level things up.

Will White then scored a second for the hosts after a mazy run and it soon got even better for the home side as Oliver Sturdy weaved his way through the Mid Devon sides defence.

The visitors responded with a second score and the sides went off for the break with the Cockles leading 3-2.

Shortly after the re-start Liam Daniels added a fourth for the hosts, this after good work Callum, Benji and Ben. Will White then struck with a brace of tries before the visitors also hit two and that proved to be the end of the scoring, the Cockles emerging as 6-4 winners.

In the second game Ben Lucas got the Cockles off to a flying start with a try in the corner but the visitors responded with a pair of tries to take the lead.

Will White then levelled before getting sin-binned for questioning the referee!

Cullompton seized the initiative and took the lead but, once White returned from the sin-bin he took centre stage, running in three quick-fire tries.

The visitor’s bounced back and scored three of their own but the Cockles had the last laugh and indeed struck the winning try when Ieaun Brockway went over to seal a thrilling 7-6 win.
