Withycombe under-9s entertained Kingsbridge in two cracking encounters at Raleigh Park on Sunday.

Game one saw the young Withies race out of the blocks with great gusto constantly forcing Kingsbridge on the back foot and they raced in to a 20-0 half time lead.

A shocked Kingsbridge came out for the second half with more determination with their passing and hard tackling a joy to watch and soon began nibbling away at Withies lead.

However, the damaged was done in the first half and the final score ended up 40-25 to Withycombe. Harry Bennett, Charlie Passmore and Alfie Gillard dotted down for two tries apiece with Erin Assleman and Harry Williams making up the scorers.

Game two again saw Withies race into an early lead with punishing runs from Erin Assleman and Alfie Gillard making ground for tries to be scored by Harry Bennett Charlie Passmore and James Griffin. The same two players then scored tries of their own and picked up joint Man of the Match awards. However, This is a good Kingsbridge side and their ability to pass the ball before being tacked created space for their pacey players to run in five well worked tries of their own, the last one being right on the final whistle to end the game a deserved 25-25 draw.

This was a vast improvement on last weeks defeat by Exeter Chiefs with every single boy putting in big tackles, forcing Kingsbridge to spill the ball creating turnovers on various occasions with the whole team playing their part in a couple of excellent games of rugby against worthy opposition. Well done
