Archant

Paul Rowe took first place in this month's leg of the Exmouth Sea Angling Association's popular monthly league, writes Simon Boere.

Exmouth base Paul landed a mixed bag including a 6lb starry smooth-hound.

The smooth-hound was hooked off Seaton beach fishing peeler crab bait on a pulley rig. This particular species grows into double figures and is one of the shark family.

Once quite a rarity from the our shores locally, both starry and common smooth-hounds are appearing in increasing numbers nowadays.

As is club policy, the fish was recorded and immediately returned safely to the water.
