THE June leg of Exmouth Sea Angling Association's Wednesday League was fished last weekend, writes Tim Clotworthy.

With the combination of calm seas and a good evening high tide (10.30pm) at Seaton, everyone's hopes were again high for the summer species.

The beach was packed with locals trying for the mackerel but the 8 members who fished this month walked the beach and found gaps to set up.

The best place to be ended up just right of centre of the beach and the worst place was directly in the middle of the beach.

Come the weigh-in some summer species had shown with mackerel and smoothounds, also a late or early flounder.

The eventual winner was Paul Rowe with a brace of smoothounds to 4 1/2 pounds, along with three dogfish and a flounder for a total of 27 points.

In second place was Si May with three dogfish and a mackerel for nine points, while third was Carl Parsons with three dogfish for eight points.

Next month's competition will be back at Branscombe on Wednesday, July 7.
