THE tenth running of the River Exe Regatta will take place over the first weekend of July, writes Mike Rice.

The event will this year be hosted by Topsham Sailing Club and sponsored by Pennys Estate Agents and All Gadgets Marine of Exmouth.

The regatta is run jointly by the four sailing clubs on the Exe: Exe Sailing Club, Lympstone Sailing Club, Starcross Yacht Club and Topsham Sailing Club.

Each year one of the clubs takes the lead in organising the regatta and hosting the social events.

Around 100 boats are expected. Dinghy racing will be organized into three fleets.

Multihulls and dinghy fleet 1 will use a start line off the Starcross YC start box whilst dinghy fleet 2 will start from a committee boat towards the east bank of the river. Sailboards will race off the seafront at Exmouth.

There will be cruiser races on both days of the regatta.

There is also a programme of events for junior sailors, based around Topsham SC, with a piratical theme.

Following last year's successful debut, the regatta will again include a big prize fishing contest organised jointly by Exmouth Deep Sea Fishing Club and Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club.

On the Saturday evening there will be a regatta party at Topsham SC with a hog roast and strawberries and cream.

After racing on Sunday there will be the now legendary regatta tea and prize draw at Topsham SC.

Entry forms and full race documentation are available from the Regatta website at www.river-exe-regatta.org.uk.

Entries close at noon on June 30.
