Budleigh Salterton ladies football club has become such an integral part of local sporting life that it is easy to forget the Robinettes only formed a decade ago.
Inspired by enthusiastic football duo, Anita James and Amy Earl, that first team came together as a way of socialising and enjoying their football under the banner of Budleigh Bicton.
They joined Division One of the Devon Women League and some of the girls playing competitive football for the first time, they suffered some heavy losses.
Retaining and obtaining players was a constant challenge but the Robinettes kept going, eventually playing under the banner of Budleigh Salterton FC in the 2013-14 season.
It proved to be a landmark season, as the Robinettes defeated Tavistock and took points from a powerful Activate Ladies side.
Alan Barnsley and Chris Pussey took on the management duties, as Budleigh put together an extraordinary campaign of success.
It all came down to a wet April day against Morley Rangers, with Budleigh requiring just a point to pinch the title from Activate.
Let’s start with the Budleigh Ladies 2013-2014 squad, Bethany Acca, Laura Atkinson, Rebecca Barnsley, Katherine Binmore, Kelly Browring, Lucy Burch, Hannah Davey, Chelcey Greasley, Becky Hazell, Kallie Horner, Molly Jacobs, Anita James, Héléne Jan, Melanie Jones, Hannah Newton, Haylee Pannell, Kathryn Parsley, Laura Raddaway, Lucy Richardson, Stacey Rogers, Dominae Weeks, Celine White, Kayleigh Williams, Olivia Young and Abby Yukon.
These names will forever be imprinted in the history of Budleigh Salterton Football Club.
In front of one of the biggest crowds ever to attend a game at Greenway Lane, the Robinettes stormed into Morley Rangers from the first whistle.
The raucous support generated a sensational atmosphere and there were no thoughts of just playing for the point.
Lucy Richardson bagged a double and there were further goals from Kathryn Parsley, Dominae Weeks, Becky Hazell and Abby Yukon, as Budleigh ran out 6-0 winners.
In keeping with the conditions, a delighted squad celebrated their title with a delightful team dive into the Greenway puddles.
Budleigh Salterton Ladies were champions of Devon football and the Robinetttes story has continued ever since.
