It’s been another good week at Madeira with successes for both the men’s and ladies’ representative team, but the highlight has to have been the Red, White and Blue Platinum Jubilee Drive.

Around 40 members took part and the green looked very jazzy with so many of those playing wearing patriotic dress. Clive Brinkworth led his team of Debbie Fox, Carole Worth and Martin Langford to a plus 16 victory and they were presented with their prizes by Captain of the Day, Brenda Marks. The afternoon concluded with an excellent fish and chip supper and a toast to the Queen.

The ladies had two teams in the County Interclub Double Rink competition. Madeira B had a difficult time against Brixham but Madeira "A” had a good win against Marldon with Jan Roberts, Christine Macaulay, Nicki Fiddimore and Sue Harriott winning by 25 – 7 and Jacky Howle and her team of Dee Williams, Joan Brinkworth, Mary Ann Dowrick drawing at 17-17. They will play Paignton in the next round.

Madeira men played a four rink County Trophy against Honiton and won on all rinks and comfortably by 62 shots to 20 at home and 50 shots to 24 away. They also had an excellent win in the National Top Club against Sidmouth winning four of the five disciplines: Pairs - Craig Ralph and Martyn Eveleigh won by 21-7; Four Wood Singles - Andy Lock won by 23-8; Two Wood Singles - Jim Wherlock won by 13-10 and Fours - Chris Reed, Ken Roberts, Graham Clarkson and Bill Davis won by 15-8.

One of the teams in the Tony Alcock National Mixed Fours lost to Topsham but it was a fine effort against a very strong team with Madeira winning on one rink but losing overall by 34 shots to 27.

Members enjoyed a mixed triples friendly fixture against visiting Dawlish Marina and it was an excellent result for the home team who won 4 of the 5 games, and overall by 111 shots to 61. Joan Mansell and her team of Chris Reed and Ann Maloney achieved the best shot difference of the day with an outstanding plus 29.
