Poor scoring to the fore at East Devon

Eighty-two intrepid seniors took to the East Devon course on a miserable and damp Monday to play in September's stableford, writes Michael Knapton.
After a lovely Sunday and promise of good weather for the rest of the week we felt a bit hard done by!
On top of this we had to play on greens that had been subject to the dreaded, but necessary, annual ‘hollow tining’ that turns beautifully manicured pure greens into vicious and unpredictable minefields - that is my excuse anyway!
These conditions reflected the relatively poor scoring with only nine golfers playing to par or better.
A further 15 golfers were however, within two shots which meant the CSS stayed at 70.
Leading the way was Dave Matthews with 42 points.
He was closely followed on 41 by Rod Ford and Martin Bright (now a single figure handicapper).
Robert Harland won the Over-75s prize and there were no fewer than six twos.
