Yet another disappointing week at Phear Park with again no wins for the Over-60s’ teams, writes David Evans.

The B team met the Wellington A team, who are excellent bowlers and top of the league so far this season, and they gave Phear Park no chance of any points.

The A team visited Dunkeswell on their all-weather green and came off much better than expected and the rink of Whyte, Dill and Evans managed to win by three shots, but overall we lost by one shot to come away with only two points.

The Foxlands trophy game was against Axminster who also play on an all-weather green and the away rink of Summers, Burch, Smith and Davidson were doing well at 9-9 at halfway, but began to fall away and eventually fell to a heavy 34-13 defeat.

The home rink of Dill, Hanson, Adams and Evans came up against good bowlers and succumbed by four shots so Phear Park will have to wait until 2019 for success.

The week ended with the always enjoyed Axon Cup when six local mixed triples compete against triples from Phear Park.

It was a very happy afternoon for all players and the home triple of J Horne, C Hatchard and D Evans, with a score of plus 30, thought they were in with a chance of success, but were eclipsed by the Phear Park triple of B Summers R Davidson and president/chairman Margo Allen, who had an excellent score of plus 34.

It was a welcome win for the home club for the first time in some years.
