Phear Park welcomed Seaton on Monday for a four rink friendly, but somewhere the lines became crossed and they brought four rinks of triples instead, writes Mike Pope.
Despite the disappointment we still managed to enjoy ourselves in glorious, bowling weather.
Park managed a win on two rinks, but lost on the other two.
John Dill led Eileen Burnham and Joy Mottershead to a stunning 29-4 victory while John Relph skipped Mike Thomas and Rob Mottershead to an 18-13 win. Park won the game overall by 62 shots to 57. A big thank you to those players who volunteered to sit this one out!
Wednesday saw the two Over-60s men’s teams in action.
The A team played away at Feniton. John Dill led Richard Cooper and John Whyte to a 17-13 victory while John Robins, Peter Burch and Les Parr drew 15 shots each. This was a great comeback as they had been 14 shots to five down after 10 ends thus taking seven points of the eight on offer. The B team welcomed Seaton to Phear Park determined to avenge the severe beating they received on the away leg at Seaton.
The two rinks were very evenly matched and there was little to choose between them throughout to game. David Martin skipped his team of Rob Mottershead and David Dowden to a 24-19 win after being five shots down with four ends to play while Mike Pope led Ron Rooke and Billy Hanley to a two shot victory despite dropping three shots on the 18th end, and Park claimed an overall 42-35 victory to bank all eight points.
Sunday saw Park entertain four rinks from Pinces Gardens being the return game from last Sunday.
This week Park won on two rinks and lost on two. The winning rinks were Sarah Westacott (skip), John Anderson, Jim Letten and Les Parr who won 25-15 and Richard Cooper (skip), Gill Harding, John Bell and Glenda Pope who won 21-17 as Park landed a 76-72 victory.
