PHEAR Park A and B teams travelled to Sidmouth to fulfil fixtures in the Over-60s triples league and both came away with points, writes Lawrie Harries.

The A team picked up six points with an overall win by 37 shots to 22, thanks to some excellent bowling by David Evans, Richard Cooper and Tom Russell (skip).

The trio dominated their game from first wood to last to claim an emphatic 23-6 victory.

It was not quite so straight forward on the other rink, though, as the Bob Smith triple of Jack Coates and John Robins just failed to hang on to an early lead and went down by two shots.

The B team were involved in a very tight game which ended 33 shots apiece; this meant four points to each side.

Fine bowling by skip David Martin led his triple of Lawrie Harries and Brian Green to an 18 - 14 win, whilst the second rink went down by 19 -14.

The record books were dusted off again after Phear Park demolished tourists Avonmouth on all six rinks and by 134 shots to 69. Despite the score line, Avonmouth enjoyed their afternoon in Exmouth and invited Phear Park to a return fixture next season, when they promised they would play their A team!
