Firebrands 4, Exe 2

Exe gave a good account of themselves before shipping a brace of second half goals.

The home side started strongly, but Sally Turner, making an impressive debut in goal with a number of crucial saves. Eventually Firebrands’ pressure paid off and they scored from a well-played short corner.

Exe responded well and leveled after great midfield play involving Becky Fagg and Molly Coleman that won a short corner and Sarah Payne converted with a rebound after Kirsty Crocker’s initial shot. Firebrands then stepped up the pressure once more and regained the lead.

However, Exe were not to be denied and, after a clever move that saw the ball delivered from one end to the other, Bridie Marlow found the backboard.

After the break there was more of the same, but it was the home side who scored twice late on to claim the points.

The first half finished 2-2. Exe knew they had to try and hold strong but the pressure of Firebrands midfield and a strong forward, they put away two goals in quick succession late on in the second half securing the 4-2 win.
