Palmer in Drogo 10 top ten

A senior member of Exmouth Harriers spoke this week about a real buzz around the club, writes Dave Eveleigh.
A lot of that results from competitive success, but there is an unforced sociability about the club too. At last weekend’s 10-mile multi-terrain race from Castle Drogo in the Teign Valley the eleven Harriers running did have a tendency to stick together.
However, Jamie Palmer wasn’t waiting for anybody as he continues through a real purple patch by finishing seventh in a time of 64:55, and the opposition at that end of the race is not just local either!
Jamie was first Man Over 45 and next home for the Harriers was Richard Bishop, 48th in 75:22, and immediately behind him was Ellie Sutcliffe, finishing 50th in 75:32 whilst John Garrity was 52nd in 75:51.
Sutcliffe was also the third woman to cross the finishing line. Then came Rebecca Fagg and Katherine Harris sharing 78th and 79th places in 80:01 and also completing the winning female team for Exmouth. Richard Pyle continues to collect the interest of the rapid early progress of a new runner who has been making regular deposits at the Bank of Training - he was 129th, of just under 500 who finished, in 85:27.
Again though there was a clubmate close behind in the shape of Sarah Jackman, 141st in 86:25. Nicholas Brown was the next Exmouth runner in finishing 188th in 91:32.
There was a bit of a gap then until Dawn Teed and Jenny Wood shared positions 327 and 328 in 1:45:47. Like most friends they enjoy each other’s company, but happen to choose a demanding 10-mile run as their meeting place.
