Exmouth Town will start their maiden season in the Southern League Division One South with a trip to the Oakfield Stadium to play Melksham Town on Saturday, August 13.

Their first home game will be on Wednesday, August 17, when Wimborne Town will be the visitors to the Circle of Care Community Stadium.

Town continued their pre-season this week with games against Torquay United and Tiverton Town. Another excellent crowd of 692 saw Town frustrate their National League visitors for long periods but were eventually undone by two goals in the last five minutes.

The Gulls fielded a mixed starting X1 with four trialists alongside more experienced players, including ex-Exeter City star Dean Moxey and, apart from one excellent Robbie Powell save, there was little goalmouth action.

Town never really troubled Rhys Lovett in the Torquay goal, who was listed as Trialist A but has since signed a contract. The second half continued in a similar vein with Manager Kevin Hill ringing the changes, including a cameo performance by himself, warmly applauded by all the spectators.

Powell again had to make important saves but was finally undone by a back post header and, as Torquay introduced some of their Academy squad, was beaten again in the final minutes.

On Saturday, Town made the trip to Tiverton, where the hosts scored two goals in the opening four minutes. Town were able to give valuable game time to many players but they fell further behind on the stroke of half time. Another screamer of a shot increased the lead but a thunderous free-kick from Jordan Harris gave Town some cheer before another quality strike completed the scoring to give a strong Tiverton side a 5-1 victory.

Town take on an Exeter City side on Saturday, kick-off 3.00pm.

Season-ticket sales at the club have already gone past 40 and the club is hopeful of exceeding 50, a great effort from Exmouth supporters, as it was just a few years ago that the average attendance at Southern Road was just 60.
