The Exmouth Bridge Club is celebrating the news of member Richard Andrews achieving the rank of Life Master for the Winter League (2011/12), writes Carla Pickering.

This year there are six teams in each of the two divisions. The opening match night took place on the second Thursday of September.

In Division 1, The New Deal, made up of Terry Cannon, Nigel Jackson-Mack, Alan Swift and Teresa Tea, achieved a 20-O victory to soar to the top of the fledgling rankings.

Not to be outdone, Jaber, with team members Jackie Hardcastle, Barbara Mellor, Rosemary Bradshaw and James Bradshaw, also notched up a 20-0 win and that was sufficient to see them head the division two rankings.

In the second Tuesday of September the EBU Simultaneous Pairs was held.

At club level, Barbara Corsbie and Eric Sage scored 66.67 per cent and were closely followed by Phil Palmer and Terry Cannon with 60 per cent.

Nationally, the result altered slightly with Barbara and Eric ending up with 64.89 per cent which gave them 26th place in a field of over 1800 competitors!

Phil and Terry increased their percentage by .22 per cent and so finished 132nd – a most notable performance!
