THERE was yet more gold success for Exmouth badminton star Ben Lane last weekend.

Exmouth Community College student Lane, playing at Nottingham amongst an outstanding field that included many of the top players in England with the majority being in the age group above the Exmouth youngster!

In the initial group stage matches Lane saw off Ditlev Holm and S Williams before beating Reece Wiggins of Essex 21-11,22-20 to reach the last four.

In the semi-final he was tasked with taking on the number one seed and indeed the English under-15 number one, Sean Vendy from Milton Keynes.

In a see-saw encounter that was very pleasing on the eye it was Lane who emerged victorious at 21-18, 22-20.

The final saw Lane up against his doubles and training partner, Dan Chow. The pair put on a display of badminton which Lane won 21-19, 17-21, 21-18.

Lane then teamed up with regular partner Jess Pugh of Staffordshire, and the duo made their way to the final of the doubles where they faced Vendy and Brodie Miller of Buckinghamshire who edged them out in a titanic game, 21-10, 19-21, 22-24.

The Lane brothers are back in action again this weekend with Alex playing for England in an under-17 match in Newcastle whilst the younger Lane will be on parade in Milton Keynes for training.
