BUDLEIGH Over 60's A team experienced mixed fortunes as a result of two away matches played during the week, writes Paul Griffin.

The team shared the rinks in both games, but ended up winning one match and losing the other.

The victory came in the match at Uffculme where Budleigh beat the home side 41-26 with Allan Cottle's triple of Archie Autton and John Dill recording a fine 28-9 win.

In the other match, away to ISCA, Budleigh lost 33-26 but in this match Ron Tyler's triple of David Tomlinson and Gerry Roberts recovered from 13-4 down after eleven ends to put in a strong finish and win their rink 16-14.

The Budleigh B team experienced a narrow defeat at home against St Thomas.

Going into the last end they were leading overall by two shots but dropped five shots to lose the match 32-29.

However, the triple of Jeff Rigg, Cliff Waycott and skip Alban Chase did savage two points for Budleigh by winning their rink 18-12.

Budleigh entertained Topsham to a six rink mixed triples friendly and, although the rinks were shared three all, the home side ran out comfortable winners by 118 shots to 90.

The Budleigh rink skipped by Terry Kelly with Margaret Ratcliff and Cliff Waycott were the star performers with a convincing 36-3 victory.

The triple of Peta Saunders, Jeff Rigg and skip Ron Tyler also performed well to win 26-8.

In a busy week of bowling Budleigh travelled to Feniton to play a six rink mixed friendly and won 129-97, winning on five of the six rinks in the process.

The best performing rinks were Gordon Mansfield, Pat Dowen, Diana Stone and skip Tony Stone who won 27-13, and John Dance's rink of Elizabeth Cole, Allan Cottle and Mike Reader with a 28-15 victory.

The Symes, Robinson and Lee sponsored Umbrella competition reaches its climax today, August 20, which will be the last orders for the Final Supper and Prizegiving to be held on Thursday, August 27, closing what has been a successful and enjoyable addition to the Budleigh Bowls Club's calendar.
