The second round of the Palairet Trophy against Libbaton was a close run affair, writes Carole Pye.

With the match tied at two all, and then the final game all square after 18 holes, the Woodbury pairing of Pete Lawrence and Jon Veale secured victory with a par at the second extra hole.

One of Woodbury’s major competitions “The Hawkins Trophy” should have been played over 36 holes last weekend.

Unfortunately, fog interrupted play on Sunday and the second day, the medal, had to be postponed.

The results for the Stableford on the Saturday were excellent. Out of a field of 113 men, Steve Maddern led with 46 points to win the Saturday Competition with David Cockayne runner-up on 44.

The ladies’ section also had a very good winning score; Billie Hibberd came in with 46 points with Norma Foster runner-up on 45. The second leg will now be played later in the season.

The midweek mixed Stableford was won by Sue Paine with a score of 40 points ahead of Nick Cooke on 39.

The Sheelah Creasy team had an excellent result against Dainton Park. Having been defeated at Dainton earlier in the season, Woodbury secured a 6-1 win in the return home match

Lyme Regis was the venue for the seniors’ latest match. A very enjoyable and friendly game resulted in a 4-3 win for Lyme Regis.
