May lands May event at Woodbury Park

THE mid-week medal competition had, as usual, a very good turn out and produced a close result with four players sharing a score of 66, writes Carole Pye
The winner, after count-back, was Philip May with John Collier-Marsh second. The ladies President’s team played Ilfracombe at home. The North Devon side are a powerful outfit and always hard to beat so the Woodbury team were delighted to emerge as 5-2 victors.
The President’s team then played at Exeter Golf and Country Club where the home side won 4.5 to 2.5.
Angela Mullerworth and Bridget Leonard won through to the fourth round of the Daily Mail foursome’s competition with a convincing win over ladies from Churston.
The weekend competition was the Badger Bowl medal for both men and ladies.
Peter Lawrence topped the first division on count-back with 74, ahead of Ian Darvelle.
The second division was won by James Kavanagh on 70, who took the trophy for the lowest score, followed by Nick Fox (73).
The third division was taken by Pete Beaven (72) with Neil Rice (73) second. Marleen Johnson took the ladies competition with a score of 67 with Sue Lipp second (69)
Woodbury men’s team played their Annual Match at the Isle of Man over three days of competition in a Ryder Cup format.
Some exciting games took place and were all played in a real spirit of friendship. Ramsey golf club won the event.
Finally, but certainly not least, the Woodbury Seniors played at St Mellion and came away with a creditable draw and followed this up with a hard- fought local derby from which East Devon emerged winners.
