Marsden second at Bridget Dohoo Memorial Challenge

Three Exmouth Harriers raced in the middle of Devon last Sunday (14 September) when they lined up for the Bridget Dohoo Memorial Challenge from Lapford, writes Dave Eveleigh.

Bridget was a member of organizing club South Molton Strugglers who died as a result of cancer and the race was a fundraiser for Hospiscare.

In such a location you would have expected a particularly Devonian course profile and there were indeed plenty of hills.

There was also a traditionally easygoing Devonian attitude to the distance, described in various places as 9.6, 9.8 and 10 miles!

However, while there was some doubt over the distance and significance of times there was none about positions which indicated some success, albeit in a small field. Hugh Marsden was second overall and first man over 55, Phil Bater, second man over 60 in 78:19 and Dawn Teed third woman and first woman over 50 in 83:56.
