MALTEAZERS defeated Sidmouth Toucans 45-22 in a well contested match, writes Louise Passmore. After a delayed start due to playing on the outside courts, Sidmouth and Malteazers finally started. Malteazers, despite starting with just six players, made the early running and went in at the end of the 1st quarter with a 9-4 advantage.Sidmouth put up some great shots, but Malteazers effectively used their centre court players to move the ball to the shooting circule. Goal shooter, Ginny Coggles and goal attack, Jess Watkins, continually found ways to draw the Toucans defence and, with their speed and accurate shooting, were able to begin accumulating the goals sufficiently for their side to end up worthy winners. The players of the match were, for Malteazers, goal attack, Jess Watkins and for Toucans, their goal defence, Anna Cloke. The other match played last week saw Revels defeat Lympstone 44-23.This was a friendly, engaging contest that saw revels seize the early initiative and never relax their grip on the contest.By the close of the first quarter Revels held a 12-2 advantage and, as Lympstone changed their side around, it did prevent Revels running away with things as the Lympets showed excellent energy across the court.A key feature of the Lympets play was the way they produced exceptional passing to the circle. However, Revels always carried the more potent threat and eventually ran out deserved victors .The Players of the Match were, for revels, centre Jackie Cox whilst the honour for Lympstone went to wing attack Amy Walton.
