The Manor Hotel (Exmouth) triples competition came to its conclusion on the first weekend of March.

The competition is played at Madeira and kindly sponsored by the Manor Hotel in Exmouth.

With teams from Seaton, Feniton, Honiton and Madeira having reached the last four, two semi-finals were played in the morning with the final played in the afternoon following a lunch provided by Madeira Bowls Club.

Contesting the final were the triples from Honiton and Madeira and, from the outset, the Madeira triple of Jim Bradford, Mike Gorman and Mark Perrot raced into a 13-0 lead.

However, a popular myth in the bowls world about teams or players getting stuck on thirteen certainly rang true and after eleven ends the Honiton trio - Tony Tooley, Malcolm Seaborne and Trevor Pipe - had clawed their way back to 11-13.

A count of three for Madeira extended their lead to 16-11, but again Honiton fought back, scoring seven shots over the remaining six ends to claim victory by 18-16.

At the end of the match the Madeira club president, John Bellamy, presented the prizes and congratulated the players on an excellent day’s bowling and thanked those responsible for the organisation.
