MADEIRA suffered a double dose of defeat last week as they went down in both matches they played. The first was a three rink men's game against the County Vice Presidents' Association and the visitors won on all three rinks. The first half of the match gave no hint of what was to come for after five ends the home side held a single shot lead.By half way the lead had changed hands with the visitors holding a four shot advantage. After 15 ends that lead had increased to 14 shots and then, in a powerful final quarter, the visiting side pulled away to win 75-47 (28+).The other game this week was a visit from a team from Axminster and, once again, the honours had to go to the visitors. At 5 ends they held the lead by 18 shots but by half way Madeira had pulled back considerably with the difference between the sides just two shots in favour of the visitors. It was now that Axminster took charge and by 15 ends they had opened up an advantage of 13 shots and held on to this to the end, finishing with a win by 19 shots, 66-47.Madeira did have a winning rink and that was Nicola Fiddimore, Harry Clark, May Dyson and skip Bill Barber, who won their game by 11 shots.
