Madeira’s Flockhart and Harris distinguish themsleves in thrilling County over-70s tie.

THERE was plenty of action, despite showery conditions this week, with more success for Madeira ladies on the bowling rinks, writes Mary Ann Dowrick.
In the NBTL Madeira shared the spoils with Topsham with one winning rink apiece. Skip Carol Worth with Freda Relph and Ann Doidge 13-12 were the successful Madeira rink.
In a cliff-hanger that went to an extra end, Madeira duo Annette Flockhart and Pat Harris distinguished themselves, edging their game in the over-70’s County competition beating opponents from Budleigh Salterton 17-16.
In the National over-60’s Mixed Fours, Madeira won on both rinks against opponents from Heavitree.
Skip Bill Davis with Ken Roberts, Jacky Howle and Sue Harriott 26-5; Skip Cliff Skinner with Jan Roberts, Pat Harris and Mick Powell 19-18.
Then, in what passes for ‘junior pairs’, Pat Harris and partner Jan Roberts beat opponents from Feniton 28-4 in the over-55’s
There was further success in the opening rounds of the County Four Wood Singles, with Janine Orchard and Jan Roberts progressing to the County section finals after stellar efforts.
And finally, the sun shone as Madeira ladies played a three rink friendly against Budleigh Salterton.
Two of the Madeira fours came out on top - Skip Sandra Mott with May Dyson, Veda Bevan and Dorothy Mott 29-11; Skip Catherine King with Debbie Fox, Margaret Mahon and Mary Ann Dowrick 26-15.
