Madeira staged an interesting encounter when they played hosts to the playing members of the English Bowls Umpires’ Association.

It would be most fair to say, that the visitors also showed a high level of expertise with the woods and it was the Umpires team who led by ten shots after five ends, extending their advantage to one of 16 by the tea break.

Post tea, the visitors continued to out-score the hosts and, having led by twenty shots at the three-quarter stage, they were pegged back slightly over the closing ends to win 121-103 (18+).

The best performing Madeira rink was that of Mavis Mears, Betty Roberts, Keith Ewins and skip John Flockhart who by 11 shots.
