Archant

Madeira greens had become difficult to play in the drought-like conditions of recent weeks, very fast and swinging, so the thunderstorm and heavy rains at the weekend were welcome, particularly as the Open Tournament starts on Sunday, writes Jenny Smith.

There have been no ladies representative teams out, but the men have been in action.

On Thursday, in the County Double rink, the men played Axminster with one rink at home and one. Both Madeira rinks had convincing wins to secure an overall 49-13 success and they now meet Feniton in the section final.

On the same night, the EDL team visited Belmont where they won on three rinks and lost on one, sealing an overall 74-58 success.

The top winning rink included Chris Reed, Robert Berry, Martin Langford and Bob Walker. The only disappointment came on Sunday when Madeira lost at ‘difficult to beat’ Kings Torquay in the third round of the National Top Club.
