Madeira ladies prosper

It's been a busy past week at Madeira Bowling Club for the lady players.

MADEIRA Ladies had a busy schedule last week, writes Catherine King.

First up was an in-house friendly against the Club’s Mens team. The lady team skips were J Rainton (her team won 23-17), P Cain (her team won 18-16), and A Flockhart (who won 19-11).

The Madeira ladies were the in action in a Lane Trophy match against North Devon with this being contested over two rinks at home and two rinks away.

At home N Cureton, L Halpin, M Glanville, and P Cain won 17–12 whilst the four of N Fiddimore M Dyson A Doidge and T Wildon won convincingly at 26-10.

In the away meeting, J Turner, F Hughes, J Healey and M Dowrick, lost 15 – 16 but there was a healthy 21-12 win for the team of D Williams, J Worsfold, B Williams and B Marks.

In the National 2-Wood triples, V Fieldhouse, S Martin and B Severn travelled from Isca to meet the Madeira trio of J Roberts, P Harris and C King with the hosts winning 26-7.

In the national over-60s pairs J Roberts and P Harris won 24–12 against B Maynard and J Gordon from Honiton.

The friendly against Honiton ladies was an overall win to Madeira. J Turnbull, T Wildon and C Macaulay, lost 10 – 22. D Lowe, F Hughes and P Cain won 18 – 16 and F Relph, M Dyson and J Healey won 19 – 8.

The Mason trophy of one rink of over-60s away and one rink home against Honiton produced an overall win for Madeira.

At Honiton, J Roberts, P Harris, E Healy and A Flockhart lost 15–20 but, at home, J Perrin, C Macaulay, A Denner and S Harriott recorded a resounding 30-8 victory.

Finally this week the Club were delighted that three members, A Denner, J Roberts and C King represented Devon in the Southwest League against Dorset.
