Madeira Ladies’ march on in two national competitions

Madeira Ladies section was buzzing with excitement last week after the results of the Mason Trophy and Yetton Trophy matches, both of which are national competitions.

In the Mason Trophy game with Newquay Madeira secured an emphatic 51-24 success.

In the home leg there was a 19-13 triumph for Jan Roberts, Jose Glaister, Jean Rainton and Catherine King and in the away leg J Perrin, Dee Williams, Veda Bevan and Jackie Howle were 32-11 winners.

The Yetton Trophy success came at the expense of Torbay who were beaten 84-68.

In the home element of the tie Jan Roberts, Nikki Fiddimore, Janine Orchard and Catherine King won 27-12 whilst the four of Jill Perrin, Veda Bevan, Jean Rainton and Jackie Howle won 28-19. In the away leg C Macaulay, Sandie Cox, Annette Flockhart and Liz Smerdon secured an 18-17 win whilst Jose Glister, Dee Williams, Deidre Norman and Angela Denner were beaten 20-11.

In the National two-wood triples there was a splendid 16-14 triumph for Jan Roberts, Janine Orchard and Catherine King against the Mid Devon trio of Beryl Willis, Gillian Callaghan and Maureen Robertson.

A triples match with Torbay saw Madeira lose 90-61, but there was joy for the team skipped by T Wildon and including A Denner and F Hughes who landed a 24-11 win.
