Archant

Our outdoor season has gotten off to a fine start with the President's Day friendly fixture, writes Mary Ann Dowrick.

Matt Marriott, club president, hosted 96 players and 16 visitors to a game of bowls and afternoon tea.

For more on the game, please see Matt’s report.

Following on, the club’s Open Day for new bowlers attracted 30 locals, who tried their hand at bowls.

The turnout was better than expected and an even bigger surprise was that the rain held off long enough for all newcomers to have a short coaching session outdoors.

Thank you, to our coaches and all the other members who participated and made the day such a success.

The Madeira ladies played a friendly against the Devon County ladies. This was a special fixture as six ladies were presented with their county badges at tea time.

Two of the ladies were from Madeira. Congratulations to Jenny Smith and Nikki Fiddimore on obtaining their county badge.

The result of the game, unfortunately, went to the visitors.

Don’t forget, outdoor coaching begins on Friday, May 2, at 6.30pm and will carry on throughout the outdoor season every Friday at the same time.

If you know of someone who may be interested in learning how to bowl, please invite them to come along.

For further information on membership or coaching, please phone Vic Doidge on 01395 279754.

Finally, a very big thank you to Martin and Lyn Eveleigh and their gang of merry men and women, who together did what was necessary to get the greens in order for opening day.

We all appreciated your efforts.
