IT PROVED to be a busy Tuesday at Madeira with a visit from Wellington played over six rinks followed by a County Trophy meeting with Honiton that required another four rinks, writes Ron Stares.
IT PROVED to be a busy Tuesday at Madeira with a visit from Wellington played over six rinks followed by a County Trophy meeting with Honiton that required another four rinks, writes Ron Stares.Against Wellington Madeira managed to take an early lead and they held this advantage throughout before winning 121-97 (24+).The best performing Madeira rink was that of Colin Hughes, Joyce Coggin, John Killoran and skip David Hay, who won their match by 15 shots.The County Trophy game with Honiton was played over two rinks at home and two away. The away rinks were skipped by Bill Davis and John Smerdon and the pair managed to bring back wins with a combined score of 46-29 (17+).Back at Madeira the rinks were skipped by Josh Hadfield and John Relph and they too led their sides to victory with a combined score of 36-33 (3+) and therefore the match itself was claimed by Madeira to a score of 82-20 (62+).The highest winning rink on a glorious day for the club was that of skip John Smerdon, Harry Cain, Michael Marks and Terry Reardon, who won their encounter by ten shots.There was one other game played last week and that was an Over-60s League game against Honiton with the honours, on this occasion, going to Honiton. Both sides produced wins on two rinks each but the overall score ended 40-30 (+10) in favour of Honiton.The best performing Madeira rink was that of Tony Smith, John Onley and skip Tony Ralph, who won their particular match by a single shot.
