It has been a week of really good performances from Madeira Ladies, with some outstanding results in a variety of competitions.

However, the major news of the week is that Alan Halpin and Vic Doidge were presented with their well-earned County Badges. They both enjoyed an afternoon’s bowls playing for Devon against Warwickshire in their Centenary Year at Culm Vale and, during the break for tea, were presented with their badges by Bowls Devon President, Paul Debnam.

Unfortunately, Devon lost to Warwickshire 97 shots to 124 but it didn’t spoil Alan and Vic’s enjoyment of day and congratulations from all at Madeira for this terrific achievement.

Several Madeira ladies took part in the early rounds of the Major 4-wood ladies singles played at Honiton and Ottery St Mary last week and Jan Roberts had two strong wins against ladies from Honiton and Ottery St Mary to reach the last 16 of this competition.

Added to that positive news, Carolyn Parker, Janet Grundy, Lin Hambly and Lin Halpin played a Seaton team in the ladies Major Rinks and achieved a comfortable win of 21 shots to 11. This again is for a place in the last 16, which will be played at Exonia on June 27. Madeira ladies now have three members/teams through to the last 16 of County Competitions. Well done to them all and good luck in future rounds.
