In a fairly quiet week for news at Madeira Bowls Club, there have been some good results from friendly fixtures and a very good result in representative games for the ladies section.

On Saturday, Madeira ladies played Isca in the 2nd round of the National Yetton Plate and, following the home team’s success against them last week in the Foxlands League, were delighted to record another win to book their place in the 3rd round against Newquay, which is to be played in December. It was a great team effort, which included two winning away rinks and a draw at home for an overall victory of 75 shots to 65.

The men have been busy with friendly fixtures, all of which were triples, and achieved excellent results. Against Winscombe, there was an overall win of 64 shots to 43, the home team winning two rinks and only narrowly losing the third. Dave Moody and his team of Rob Prescott and David Mansell achieved the best shot difference of the day of plus 18.

There was a draw of 47 all away against Isca men with Madeira winning one, drawing another and losing the third. The winning rink was again skipped by Dave Moody, this time playing with M Holmes and Nick Jones.

The third fixture was a successful visit to, and warm welcome from, Mid-Devon Bowling Club, with Madeira men winning on all three rinks achieving an outstanding 70 shots to 33. Dave Moody seems to be on a roll this week, as it was his team again that achieved the highest shot difference - playing with Mike Norman and Roger Williams, his team’s shot difference was an impressive plus 25.

The ladies enjoyed only one friendly game this week when they played away against Honiton. The two teams were fairly evenly matched with a win each and a draw but Honiton emerged the winners with 52 shots to 47. Carole Worth and her team Carolyn Parker and Sandy Worcester did well to win their triples by plus 6 shots.
