The ladies of Madeira A had a good win in the Grace Mathews Top Club against Sidmouth by three disciplines to two.

There were strong results for the Fours skipped by Jacky Howle, the pairs – Nicky Fiddemore and Sue Harriott and a comfortable win for Dee Williams in the Two wood singles. Their second round will be away against Ottery St Mary.

The men’s representative teams played in the Foxlands against Seaton, one rink at home and one away. It was closely fought but Madeira won the game by 44 shots to 40.

The men had two teams in the National Men’s Double Rink, both of them played at Madeira last Friday evening and both of which Madeira lost. However, the selectors were impressed by the performance of the team which played against Crediton, seven of whom had not previously represented their club in this competition. They were unlucky to lose on the last end by 21 shots to 24.

In individual County Competitions, Dave Macaulay has done well to win through to the last 16 of the Major Men’s 4-wood Singles, and Andy Lock and Ron Cook have reached the same stage in the Major Men’s Pairs, winning the section final game against a Feniton team by 19 shots to 11.

There was a ladies-only triples against Honiton, each club winning one game each and drawing the third. Jacky Howle playing with Myra Furminger and Joan Mansell were the winning team for Madeira.

Six mixed triples teams travelled from Sidmouth for a match, which Madeira were fortunate to win, as they narrowly lost five of the games. However, they were helped to an overall win of 104 shots to 86 by a dominant display from Rob Walker and his team of John Bellamy and Christine Macaulay.

Finally, Devon Masonic BC brought three triples teams and there was an overall win for the home team helped by Club Chairman, Dave Moody, and his team with their plus 19 shot difference. The Devon Masonic Captain Keith Young presented Madeira with a cheque to be donated to an Exmouth charity and this generous gift will be forwarded to the Exmouth Food Bank.
