It was an exciting week for the Madeira Ladies when they out bowled their opponents, the Torquay Kings, in the National Topclub knockout fixture held at Madeira, writes Mary Ann Dowrick.

Angie Fish excelled in the singles by beating Natalie Melmore 21-4.

The fours skipped by Liz Healy with Lynn Eveleigh, Pat Harris and Jacky Howle took control of their game and won 26-9.

The pairs and triples lost their games, but due to the overall point differential Madeira gained the overall win comfortably. Great stuff, girls!

Madeira A managed another win, when they played Tavistock in the Bowls Devon Inter Club.

Madeira won on one rink and lost on the other.

With a stellar contribution from Skip Liz Healy with Liz Smerdon, Janine Orchard and Christine Macaulay who won 33-5, the overall point differential again provided Madeira with the win.

Madeira B were less fortunate, and went down heavily, in their Bowls Devon Inter Club game against Honiton, and are now out of this competition.

The Madeira Open Tournament begins this Sunday (July 7).

Any member who is available to help with catering and other odd jobs will be very welcome.

Madeira’s Open Tournament has a reputation for good greens, good food and friendship. Let’s continue the tradition!
