Lympstone’s Beaumont bags big win in Cornwall

Lympstone boxing club’s James Beaumont was a big winner in Plymouth last weekend, writes Neil Parsons.

The 24-year-old fighting at 72Kgs featured on the Mayflower ABC bill, a tournament held at the Agaton Social club Club, Crownhill, Plymouth.

He took on the home club’s Ritchie Hiew, a stocky southpaw.

The home fighter powered forward from the opening bell and temporarily unsettled the Lympstone boxer, but once Beamount settled he nullified his opponents attack with a series of crisp combinations.

The second round saw more of the same with the home boxer roared on by a fiercely partisan crowd! Once again Beaumont weathered the early storm before beginning to make his accurate counter-attack punches count.

In the third round Hiew was clearly beginning to tire and he got caught by some hard

Right-hand punches from Beaumont who begin to build a significant lead.

At the final bell the Lympstone boxer was a clear winner with the judges giving him the bout

16-12, 17-4,17-9.

This weekend Beaumont will be joined by another Lympstone boxer, Jared Jones, on a bill at Camborne in Cornwall.
