Boxing in Exmouth and the surrounding areas has been given a significant boost with news of a generous sponsorship for the local club.

HiQ Exmouth, has agreed to donate £500 to sponsor a fight night to raise funds for new facilities.

Martin Price and Mike Pickering, owner of the HiQ centre in St Andrew’s Road, has hit the target for Lympstone Amateur Boxing Club’s evening of entertainment at the Pavilion, Exmouth on Friday, October 14.

The automotive experts were hooked on helping out when club owner Neil Parsons pulled into their forecourt to talk about his plans.

HiQ soon agreed to donate £500 to sponsor the event, which will feature 14 amateur bouts and a guest of honour appearance by former Commonwealth gold medallist and Welsh super featherweight champion Jamie Arthur.

Neil said that HiQ’s generous partnership would go towards a fundraising project to build an extension on the club’s existing gymnasium.

He said: “I can’t thank HiQ enough for all they have done. Our existing facilities are too small now and we organised this night to help swell the coffers as we try to build onto the club. For HiQ to dig deep into their pockets when money is so tight right now is wonderful and we can’t thank them enough for their kind gesture.”

HiQ owner Martin Price said: “We always strive to support the local community wherever possible and we were only too pleased to help out. Lympstone Boxing Club plays a vital role for youngsters in the area, teaching discipline and providing a sense of purpose. With this in mind we wanted to do our bit, even if we are a bit less keen to lace the gloves and get in the ring ourselves!”
