EXMOUTH have made three additions to their senior squad ahead of the new Devon League season.Western Province U19 fast bowler Carson Lederle is coming over on an exchange visit organised by the Devon Cricket Board and the Western Province Academy.Lederle, who is only 18, has a decent track record in State U19 cricket and has caught the eye of the right people."Peter Kirsten, the former South African batsman, recommended Carson and that is good enough for us," said Exmouth skipper Richard Baggs.Steve Dembitzer, another Western Province U19 bowler, is coming over on the same programme and is destined for a season in the A Division with Tavistock.Batting all-rounder Ed Yeo, formerly with Barnstaple and Braunton, has switched from Torquay. And Sri Lankan batsman Jay Mangala has signed on to play in the 2nd XI this summer.Yeo will be teaming up with former Braunton pals James Winsor and Mike Paine, who were already with Exmouth.Torquay's first team squad has fallen apart over the close season and Yeo left it late, out of loyalty, before reluctantly moving on."Ed had a great time at Torquay and I know it was a difficult decision for him to leave," said Exmouth skipper Richard Baggs."He feels Exmouth are going in a better direction to Torquay and approached us about joining. We didn't approach him."Ed's got friends in the side already so shouldn't take long to settle in. He is an experienced Premier Division player and I am glad to welcome him to Exmouth."Mangala had two years with Clyst Hydon as their overseas player, but didn't make the trip over in 2007.Exmouth were keen to sign him up when they head he was coming over to this country. Baggs, who rejoined Exmouth last season and is captain at the Maer for 2008, doesn't expect to see anything of Devon all-rounder and predecessor David Court, who has landed a coaching job with Surrey.Court, 27, has been a community coach working for the Devon Cricket Board for the past four years. Surrey have offered him a job in their performance academy, where he will be working with the county's youth and women's sides. The man in charge of the performance academy is Court's former Devon team-mate Gareth Townsend, who is currently managing a Surrey Development squad tour to South Africa."David was at our nets on Sunday and told me then not to expect to see him this season," said Baggs."It's a new job, it's a long way away and he is keen to make an impression."He said he wants to carry on playing for Devon, but that's going to be difficult for him as well. He might fit the one-day games in, but three-day stuff on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays is going to be hard."We all wish him well in his new job, but it is immensely disappointing from an Exmouth point of view. Somerset have agreed to let Arul Suppiah sign for us this season and I was looking forward to having both of them in the same team."l There is cricket at Exmouth this Sunday (11am) when Devon play the University of Exeter in a 50-over friendly.BUDLEIGH Salterton are looking forward to an exciting season with plenty of new players arriving at Ottermouth to strengthen the hand of new skipper Ian Bishop. There is a lengthy list of close-season captures, starting with Rolle College student Ben Slack, an all-rounder who has played for Lincolnshire at U19 level. Tom Viljoen, who bats and bowls spin, is a welcome newcomer who has moved into the area.Omari Banks, the former West Indies Test player who has joined Somerset this season, has also been registered by Budleigh.Spinner Banks was Budleigh's overseas player in 2002 - before he found fame and fortune in the First Class game - and may play as and when his Somserset obligations allow.Another player with Somerset connections is Charles Wood, who has played for the county at U17 level. From closer to home, Budleigh have recruited Danny Lowman and Liam Cook from Exmouth. Lloyd White, from Exeter, is another capture.University of Exeter batsman James Beeney isn't a new face as he has been registered since 2006. However, Budleigh hope to see a little more of him this season than last. There have been two retirements - Paul Brown and Jeremy Crooker - and work committments will almost certainly limit spinner Andy Procter's appearances,All this pre-season activity is to bolster a squad facing new challenges this season.Budleigh's 2nd XI is back in the Premier Division 2nd XI competition this summer. To survive in it needs additional playing strength, as Budleigh discovered during their last brief stay."With both teams now in their respective Premier divisions, we have been able to attract a fantastic calibre of player," said second team skipper Ian Taylor."All these will strengthen our club playing squad. We are also attracting young players who want to come and play for our club, which is great news for the future."Players will be vying for places and will need to perform on a consistent basis to keep them."That is what you need to have for success as a club.
