BUDLEIGH Men suffered a narrow last end 81-78 defeat against Sidmouth in the County Trophy competition, writes Paul Griffin.

Going into the last end of the four rink match Budleigh led by two shots but conceded five to lose overall by three shots with the rinks shared two all.

Budleigh’s home rink skipped by Bob Rivers with Tony Lim, Burges Stace, and John Dill held onto a narrow lead though out to win 21-18 and the away rink of Tony Dealler, Mike Shaw, Gerry Roberts and skip Alan Cottle fought off a late comeback by the Sidmouth foursome to win 25-21.

Sidmouth are becoming somewhat of a bogey team for Budleigh following a similar story in the second round of the Top Club competition where Sidmouth won 3-2. Tony Lim made a remarkable recovery to win the Two Wood Singles 21-17 for Budleigh, at one stage he was 16-5 down! Paul Griffin and Ron Tyler won the Doubles 21-15 but Sidmouth won the other three disciplines to take the tie overall.
